College of Veterinary Science, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad

The College of Veterinary Science, Rajendranagar, stands as one of the oldest and most prestigious veterinary institutions in India. Established on 5th August 1946 as Hyderabad Veterinary College, it initially functioned under the aegis of Osmania University with the primary objective of imparting quality veterinary education in the erstwhile princely state of Hyderabad. In 1954, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) recognized the college as a national center, permitting students from across the country to pursue veterinary education. The college has a legacy of academic excellence and international collaboration, highlighted by the deputation of several faculty members to Kansas State University, USA, in 1957 under the USAID program. On 10th July 1964, the college became a constituent of Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University (APAU) and was subsequently shifted to the present Rajendranagar campus in 1968. In 1996, APAU was renamed Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU). With the formation of Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU), Tirupati in 2005, the college came under its administrative control.

Following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and the formation of the Telangana State, the Government of Telangana established a dedicated veterinary university in November 2014, naming it after the former Prime Minister of India, Sri P. V. Narasimha Rao. Since then, the college functions under the jurisdiction of PVNRTVU. The present college building became operational in 2010.
