The Poultry Research Station is located at Rajendranagar and is the only station dedicated to poultry research, especially backyard poultry, in Telangana. It was established in 2015, following the closure of the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Poultry Breeding by ICAR-DPR, vide Proc. No. Cir.No.1120/Res/2015-3 dated: 14.05.2015.
To use the centre for knowledge dissemination by organizing training programs, workshops, and certificate courses for students, field veterinarians, hatchery personnel, etc.
The Institute has developed Rajasri — a dual-purpose synthetic variety (White Leghorn, Desi, Dalhem Red, RIR) suitable for backyard rearing. These birds are hardy, thrives under low-input, backyard systems. They are know for its disease resistance & survivability and lay up to 165 eggs/year under intensive systems or 110–120 eggs under free-range.
